Homer was Real
Homer field-next to the Gym- was named after a donkey named homer who lived in the field… Everyone who comes to Miracle Camp hears the story. But was it true? YES! It is true and here is the proof:
Homer was found by this woman in early summer. She was walking from the old lodge to the gym. Homer came up to her and nuzzled against her. She could tell he needed love. She gave him a huge hug and named him Homer. Homer was a friendly fellow. He loved to get hugged in the morning…
… getting petted in the afternoon while eating delicious grass…
…and in the evening he would pose for pictures with the campers. Homer was so kind and loved by everyone. Well, almost everyone (Dun Dun Dun)…
A gang of campers called the “scooter gang” did not like Homer very much . They decided they would try to hurt him. They took a picture of him in danger to sell for hundreds of chipwiches. One brave reporter captured a picture of this horrific event:
When the campers saw the photo, they chased the scooter gang out of camp. Later, they named the field homer lived in Homer Field after the beloved donkey. The field still retains that name…
…In Memoriam.
Today campers can purchase stuffed Homer donkeys at the Miracle Camp trading post. These toys help kids to remember the story of homer and how much he loved others.
97% of the above story is false.
Write true facts about Homer in the comments below.

Wednesday Rewind- Box Hocky
Does anyone remember box hockey? It was one of my favorite free time activities when I was a camper at Miracle Camp. Below is a picture of two campers playing the great game in front of the old lodge. Based on the sweatsuits, I’d say this was taken in the early 90′s

Theme Night Then and Now
Every week Miracle Camp campers look forward to theme night. A night where we dress up and celebrate a theme. Past theme nights have included:
-Pirate night
-80′s night
-Willy Wonka
-Army Night
and of course…
… Cowboys and potato sack night?
Needless to say, every theme night at Miracle Camp is a blast. Check out this picture from Fiesta Night:

First Snow
The first snow of the season has finally arrived- and that gets me ready for ice camps! What is the first thing everyone thinks of when they hear “ice camp?”
(shouts from crowed)
ICE
SNOW
WINTER
…eh em…ok thanks everyone…
I think I heard someone shout toboggan run… Didn’t I?
(crowed murmurs)
Whelp- here are two pictures of the toboggan run back in the good-ol-days of MCRC and two of the current hill.
As you will see below, both our toboggan hill and coats have improved. I mean seriously- what is that girl in the primary colored coat thinking? She must have her head outside of the picture to hide her identity…
…or her frog hat.

Wednesday Rewind- Outdoor Chapel
One huge blessing Miracle Camp participants get to enjoy is our beautiful outdoor setting. Campers have been using the outdoors as a place of worship since day 1. Below is a historic picture of one of these early worship services.
We think this is taking place in the Judson Bowl- where we currently have our Crazy Campfire in the summers. Below is a picture of an outdoor chapel service from the summer of 2011. We now have a wonderful outdoor worship center that has benches, a stage, and a cross.

Wednesday Rewind Remake- IFOs
Todays Wednesday Rewind Remake features IFOs (identified falling objects). Camp is home to many strange things- and as this post will show- it is not uncommon to see identified falling objects in the skies of MC. For example- this falling giant ball:
“Ahhh! Everyone get down! Save me from the Giant falling Ball!”
” Don’t worry, I will bounce it off the faded side of my acid washed jeans.”
Pictured above is a group of staff in 1983 playing a game with a giant ball. Below is a remake using The Great Equalizer- a giant die that can dramatically change your place in cabin competition. The die is being thrown by two 2011 summer staff members- Greg Coffman and Sarah Bellis.
What else can be seen falling through the skies at MC? Post your ideas to our facebook wall (hint think ambush games). And next time you visit, keep your eyes on the skies, who knows what may be falling…

Wednesday Rewind Remake- Pancakes
Remember those good o’ days when you would wake up and smell the pancakes cooking on coffee cans…
WHAT?
Oh yeah, thats what we did way back in the day at Miracle Camp. Not a bad way to have a camp-out breakfast (don’t forget the maple syrup).
Need proof? Here is a pic.
From the look on her face, I’d say the girl cooking (Nancy (Graber) Roth) has no idea what she is doing. And the girl in pink is wishing SOMEONE would have remembered the syrup (or perhaps a few more hours of sleep).
All in all, it looks like a fun morning.
We thought about remaking this delightful morning, but them realized that a modern-plastic coffee can would not serve as an adequate stove (I’ll have my helping light on the carcinogens please). So we cooked our pancakes inside-on a real-person stove and brought them out for the pic.
As Abby shows, it was a bit warmer in the first picture. I think this Aspinall clan captured the photo quite well. Bravo! Now can I have my breakfast?
Believe it or not there is at least one thing in the first picture that we still have at MC. Can you find it?

Wednesday Rewind Remake- Chapel
Welcome to the first Wednesday Rewind Remake- Say that three times fast. This WRR will focus on the Oakwood Chapel- constructed in 1987 (hey that is the year I was born). Below is a picture of a 1989 chapel session. See if you can find the old-fashioned overhead projector. And who remembers those hanging chapel lights?
Above is a picture of a 1989 Sr. High Retreat. Kathy Link is speaking.
Below is a photo of a 2011 Jr. High Summer Camp. Tyler Quillet is speaking.
There are at least three things in the first picture that are still at Miracle Camp today. If you think you know what they are, post them to our facebook wall.
